Tornado Recovery During the Corona Pandemic

Mr. Fred Roger's said "in times of disaster, look for the helpers." In the past two weeks, Tennessee has dealt with the aftermath of a deadly tornado and now, the pandemic of the novel Corona virus. Have we noticed a dip in volunteers, donations, and general interest as the virus continues to spread throughout our state and country? Yes. But what we have also noticed is there are STILL people reaching out, wanting to donate, and showing up to volunteer! There are still people wanting to help. That is what inspires and motivates us to keep going. We are looking for the helpers. Nashville, because of you, we don't have to look far. Thank you.

We will still be delivering supplies and food as long as we can. If you are in need of assistance or know someone who is, please complete a request form so we can support you. Complete the form here.

Here are a few updates!

1.The Tennessee Department of Human Services (TDHS) is making two essential resources available to families with a financial need who were impacted by last week’s severe weather. Beginning March 16, TDHS will begin accepting applications for Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (D-SNAP) benefits and the Families First/Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) Emergency Cash Assistance program. For more information or to find out how to apply click here.

2. McGruder Family Resource Center will be holding a camp next week for kids effected by the tornado who live in their serving area. Camp will be held Mon-Fri from 10 am to 2 PM. Hot lunch will be served as well as a snack. Supplies will be distributed to families of the campers. McGruder will also have a food pantry open next week while supplies last.

3. Second Harvest has food boxes available for pick up. For locations click here.

#RebuildNorthNashville Spotlight: Every now and then we will feature members of our team who have gone above and beyond to serve our community. For this first spotlight we would like to shout out our volunteer coordinator Kate and our trauma response coordinator Deirdre! Kate is a volunteer and logistics queen and has been working day and night to ensure our volunteers are informed and our families get what they need! Deidra has been managing a disaster assistance site at New Season Church even though her family was directly impacted by the storm as well.

We are so proud to have these ladies on our team. Thank you Kate and Deirdre!
